About this session
A three-day symposium for kaiako (teachers) to learn, develop and master skills in assessing Te Ao Haka. The event includes keynote speakers, wānanga (workshops) on unpacking standards across three levels, teaching strategies, assessment design, moderation, and support from NZQA personnel on internal and external assessment requirements.
Who should attend
The symposium is open to all kaiako/kura wanting to know more about assessment for Te Ao Haka – whether new to teaching the subject, looking to introduce it at your kura/school, or an experienced kaiako seeking a refresher or support in assessing against the standards.
Programme overview
Sessions across three days include pōwhiri, karakia, keynote speakers, wānanga on unpacking standards (Taumata 1-3), teaching strategies, assessment activity design, moderation, and curriculum changes. Detailed programme with session times and confirmed speakers to be published.
Registration fee
Registration fee is $150 (inc GST) per person for the full 3-day symposium. Kura/schools will be invoiced. Kai provided by host kura. Kaiako/kura responsible for own travel and accommodation. Registration deadline: Friday 18 September 2026.
Preparation
Kaiako encouraged to familiarise themselves with standards and resources on the Te Ao Haka subject page. Additional preparation materials may be sent to registered participants before the symposium.
