A 3-part workshop exploring Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) through a neuroaffirming occupational therapy lens. Participants will gain insight into the lived experience of PDA, learn to differentiate it from other presentations, and develop practical strategies to reduce anxiety and support children with PDA and their caregivers.
Workshop Structure
3-part workshop with mix of presentations, interactive content, small group activities, case study discussions and Q&A. Part 1 (1 Sept, 1-4pm AEST): PDA 101 foundational knowledge (recorded). Part 2 (7 Sept, 10am-6pm AEST): Practical strategies with demonstrations and role plays (not recorded). Part 3 (29 Sept, 1-4pm AEST): Case studies and Q&A (not recorded).

OTs at any career stage interested in increasing their understanding of PDA and best practice for supporting children with PDA and their families.
Key Learning Objectives
Define PDA and its characteristics; differentiate PDA from other presentations; identify challenges for OTs; learn evidence-informed PDA-friendly strategies; develop skills in declarative language and co-regulation; implement approaches for sensory and emotional regulation; explore neuroaffirming principles; recognize impact on families.
